Association
The ADAKU - Westafrican Cuisine association, founded in 2017, is devoted to facilitating interaction with the West African culture through diverse projects. These projects predominantly center around the food culture of West African countries. However, the culinary approach can also be seamlessly integrated with various disciplines, so as art, music and design.
These initiatives strive to accentuate the thriving, modern and diverse West Africa. Furthermore, it is of significance for the association to challenge prevailing stereotypes and clichés about West Africa by depicting its contemporary and thriving facets.
The aim is to eliminate unfair beliefs and racism by making powerful and memorable images and experiences that celebrate the culture of West Africa.
FOUNDER
NAOMI ADAKU BIADUO
"Otu onye tụọ izu, o gbue ọchụ" - Igbo proverb
Inspired by the Igbo saying, "Knowledge is never complete: two heads are better than one," Naomi Adaku founded the ADAKU - Westafrican Cuisine association. Initially, her aim was to deepen her understanding of her father’s roots. However, her vision expanded, creating a platform not just for herself, but also for those intrested by the complexities of West African culture.
Naomi Adaku also sought to reshape perceptions of West Africa, showcasing it as a dynamic, captivating and flourishing region. With a background as a certified Hôtelière-Restauratrice HF and a profound connection to food, she naturally focused on culinary projects. This food-centered approach highlights the vibrancy of West African culture, inviting others to join in the journey of discovery, and finally to learn and gain new and old knowledge TOGETHER.
